There are not only lots of games you can bet on, there are also lots of different types of wagers you can place.
Point spreads and totals are the most popular types, by quite a distance, and many football bettors stick solely to those.
This isn't really the ideal approach, as some of the other wagers can be very useful in the right circumstances.
The moneyline is definitely one of those wagers.
This is often viewed as an alternative to the point spread, and in some respects it is, but that doesn't mean it should be ignored just because you like betting on the spread.
We explain why in this article, and we also offer some tips for betting football moneylines.
First, though, we'll explain exactly how moneylines work when betting on football.
How Football Moneylines Work Betting the moneyline for a football game is simply betting on which team you think is going to win.
There is no point spread involved.
Whichever team you select has to win outright for a wager to be successful.
In the unlikely event of a tie, your stake will be returned.
In most football games there is a favorite and an underdog.
Very occasionally there are games where the two team are completely evenly matched, but for the most part one team is favored over the other to win.
With point spreads, the idea is to create an even money proposition when betting on the game.
So the favorite has to win by at least a certain number of points for a wager on them to be successful, and the underdog has to lose by no more than a certain number of points for a wager on them to be successful.
The bigger the gap in betting football money line between the two teams, the bigger the point spread.
Because there's no point spread involved with moneyline wagers, the odds are adjusted to reflect this.
So whereas both sides of a point spread wager both have the same odds, or very close to the same typically around -110moneyline odds can be very different.
The bookmakers consider them very likely to win the game, so the odds are quite low.
By contrast, the odds for the Packers are quite high because they're not considered very likely to win.
Here's how the potential payouts look for the two wagers.
As you can see, you stand to make a much better return when backing the Packers.
This is because the risks are higher, due to their chances https://deposit-promocode-casinos.website/football/fantasy-football-bonus-scoring-system.html winning.
The Cardinals are far more likely to win than lose, so a wager on them doesn't offer a great return.
You get to control, to some extent, the risk versus reward.
For example, you might be quite certain that the Cardinals are going to win this game, but not convinced that they're going to cover the spread.
So a moneyline wager is the safe option.
There's less money to be made, but less chance of losing.
On the other hand, you might think that the Packers are going to cause an upset.
Rather than betting on them to cover the spread, you can bet on them to win outright.
There's less chance of winning such a wager, but the potential returns are much greater.
We mentioned earlier how point spreads change depending on the gap in quality between the two teams.
The same principle applies to moneylines, but it's the odds that change.
So, for example, if two teams are fairly evenly matched then the following odds might be available.
The potential payout for a bet on the favorite is higher because they're not AS likely to win.
When to Bet Moneylines We're often asked a question along the lines of "why would I place moneyline wagers rather than point spread wagers?
You don't have to decide that you're always going to bet on the spread, or that you're always going to bet moneylines.
These are two different wager types that have their own merits, and any bettor should have them both in betting football money line arsenal.
We've already mentioned how moneyline wagers give you more control over the betting football money line versus reward element of betting.
There are also other reasons why you might choose this type of wager over a points spread.
If you fully understand how both of these wagers work, you'll find that there are games when a moneyline wager is the right option, and games when the point spread wager is the right option.
There are no definitive rules about which one you should use and when, only a general principle that you should try to follow.
Place whichever type of wager you feel offers the most value in any given situation This should hopefully make perfect sense to you.
Successful betting, on any sport, is all about finding value, so you should always look to get the best value that you can.
If a moneyline wager offers the best value on a football game, then that's the wager you should be placing.
If betting football money line point spread seems the best option, then go down that route.
There may even be occasions where it's viable to place both wagers on the same game.
With all that being said, there is one situation where we'd suggest the moneyline wager is usually a better option than a point spread wager.
This is when you like three point underdogs in an NFL game.
Only a small percentage of NFL games are decided by three points or less, so if you think a three point underdog is going to cover then you might as well bet on them to win outright.
This will generally give you a much better return.
The Seattle versus Carolina game we showed you earlier is a good example of just that kind of situation.
Here's how the point spread looked for that game.
If you liked that bet, it would actually be much more logical to place a moneyline wager at odds of +130.
Let's look at the potential returns for the two bets.
This is a huge difference.
You're a little less likely to win, as there is a chance that Seattle would lose by one or two points, but there's a more than fair chance that if they did cover they would actually win the match.
And, of course, if they lost by three or more then you'd have lost either way.
Tips for Betting Football Moneylines Now that you know how moneylines work, and have some idea of when to use them, you can start to consider how to bet moneylines effectively.
win gambling to how on football money following tips betting football money line help you with this.
Work on your handicapping skills As with any type of football wager, your best hope of making winners golden today code lies in being able to handicap games effectively.
This means analyzing each team's relative chances of winning, and then comparing those chances to the odds available.
That's a slightly simplified explanation of how handicapping works, but it's accurate nonetheless.
Actually handicapping games is far from simple though.
Or, at least, handicapping them well is.
There are all kinds of different factors that can affect the outcome of a game, and you need to take as many of them as possible into account.
You also need to assess just how much of an impact those factors will have, and try to accurately evaluate just how likely a team is to win.
For more advice on how to do this, please see the following article.
Picks your spots One of the biggest mistakes that bettors make is trying to make a judgement on every single game that's taking place.
This is especially true of those who only focus on the NFL.
There aren't that many games each week, and bettors think they stand the best chance of making money if they can predict the outcomes in all of them.
This is not an approach we recommend.
You don't need to bet on every game The key to successful betting lies in quality and not quantity.
Your overall chances of winning are much greater if you pick your spots carefully, and only bet when you find real link />There isn't a huge number of NFL games each week, but there's enough that it's simply not realistic to think you can handicap them all.
And if you're also betting on college games then this is even more of an issue.
Be patient, be selective, and only bet when you have justified reasons to do so.
Get the best odds This tip applies to placing wager of any type, on any sport.
It's important enough for us to mention it here though.
If you only bet with one bookmaker or betting site, then you're almost certainly hindering your chances of making money.
At the very least you will be missing out on getting the best possible value.
This is because different bookmakers and betting sites price up games differently.
So the odds they offer are not always the same.
Remember the Packers versus Cardinals game we showed earlier as an example?
We used the actual odds from a real betting site for that example.
The following odds were also available for the same game, from various other sites.
By shopping around for the best odds you can ensure that your potential payout is always as high as it can be.
This is a great benefit over time, and can even be the difference between winning overall or losing overall.
Such as the fine margins of betting on football.
Summary Moneylines are a viable alternative to point spreads when betting on football.
If you're one of those bettors who only ever bets on the spread, then you could very well be missing out on some good opportunities to find better value.
We don't recommend betting football money line you stop placing point spreads and only place moneyline wagers, but you should definitely consider both when betting on a game of football.
Try to decide which one offers the better value, and then go with that option.
It's also worth backing big favorites on the moneyline if you like a low risk approach.
Always take the odds into consideration though.
The profit from winning a lot of bets at very low odds can soon be wiped out with just a couple of losing bets.

Sometimes a bettor may couple this type of bet on the favored team to increase the payout of a parlay.
The spread, or line, is a number assigned by the bookmakers which handicaps one team and favors another when two teams play each other and one is perceived as being more likely to win.
The favorite "takes" points from the final score and the underdog "gives" points.
This number can also be in increments of half-a-point.
For example, before game 5 of thethe were expected to beat the.
To determine who wins against the spread, the line is either added or subtracted from a team's final score.
In the above example, if the bettor chose Miami, he would subtract 3 points from Miami's final score and compare that to Oklahoma City's final score.
If taking Oklahoma City, he will add 3 points to Oklahoma City's final score.
For him to win his bet, Miami would have to win the game by 4 points or more.
And if a bettor took Oklahoma City, they would have to win outright or lose by less than 3 points.
If the final adjusted score is a tie, the bet is considered a push.
This is the most common type of bet in American sports betting.
Example, if an MLB game has a total of 10.
If the combined total is the same as the proposed total, the bet is a push.
Examples include predicting the number of goals a star player scores in an match, betting whether a player will run for a certain number of yards in an game, or wagering that a player on one team will accumulate more hits than another player on the opposing team.
A parlay involves multiple bets that rewards successful bettors with a greater payout only if all bets in the parlay win.

The possible payout of the parlay is determined by the combined likelihood of all bets placed.
A parlay of riskier bets more underdogs will pay greater than a parlay of more likely bets more favorites.
In a parlay, all bets need to win in order for the parlay to win.
If one of the bets on a parlay loses, the whole parlay loses.
In the evidence of a push, the pushed bet would be taken out of the parlay and the parlay would bump down to a set of odds without that bet.

The team wagered upon might be 50—1 to win thewhich means that the bet will pay 50 times the amount wagered if the team does so.

For example, in football matches, it is possible to bet in on in-play markets including the match result, half-time score, number of goals scored in the first or second half of the game, the number of yellow cards during the match, and the name of the goal scorers.
The availability of a particular sport and in-play markets varies from bookmaker to bookmaker.

Moneyline vs Point Spread Betting | Odds Shark

There are not betting football money line lots of games you can bet on, there are also lots of different types of wagers you can place.
The bigger the gap in quality between the two teams, the bigger the point spread.
This is because the risks are higher, due to their chances of winning.
The Cardinals are far more likely to win than lose, so a wager on them doesn't offer a great return.
This highlights a notable advantage of the moneyline wager.
These are two more info wager types that have their own merits, and any bettor should have them both in their arsenal.
We've already mentioned how moneyline wagers give you more control over the risk versus reward element of betting.
There are also other reasons why you might choose this type of wager over a points spread.
If you fully understand how both of these wagers work, you'll find that there are games when a moneyline wager is the right option, and games when the point spread wager is the right option.
There are no definitive rules about which betting football money line you should use and when, only a general principle that you should try to follow.
Place whichever type of wager you feel offers the most value in any given situation This should hopefully make perfect sense betting football money line you.
Successful betting, on any sport, is all about finding value, so you should always look to get the best value that you can.
If a betfair free bet no wager offers the best value on money college football betting football game, then that's the wager you should be placing.
If a point spread seems the best option, then go down that route.
The following tips will help you with this.
Work on your handicapping skills As with any type of football wager, your best hope of making money lies in being able to handicap games effectively.
This means analyzing each team's relative chances of winning, and then comparing those chances to the odds available.
That's a slightly simplified explanation of how handicapping works, but it's accurate nonetheless.
Actually handicapping games is far from simple though.
Or, at least, handicapping them well is.
There are all kinds of different factors that can affect the outcome of a game, and you need to take as many of read more as possible into account.
You also need to assess betting football money line how much of an impact those factors will have, and try to accurately evaluate just how likely a team is to win.
Your overall chances of winning are much greater if you pick your spots carefully, and only bet when you find real value.
There isn't a huge number of NFL games each week, but there's enough that it's simply not realistic to think you can handicap them all.
And if you're also betting on college games then this is even more of an issue.
Be patient, be selective, and only bet when you have read more reasons to do so.
We don't recommend that you stop placing point spreads and only place moneyline wagers, but you should definitely consider both when betting on a game of football.
Try to decide which one offers the better value, and then go with that option.
It's also worth backing big favorites on the moneyline if you like a low risk approach.
Always take the odds into consideration though.
The profit from winning a lot of bets at very low odds can soon be wiped out with just a couple of losing bets.

June 2018 Odds boards in a Las Vegas sportsbook Sports betting is the activity of predicting results and placing a wager on the outcome.
The frequency of sports bet upon varies by culture, with the vast majority of bets being placed on,, and at both the amateur and professional levels.
Sports betting can also extend to non-athletic events, such as reality show contests and political elections, and non-human contests such as, and illegal, underground.
The term "book" is a reference to the books used by wagebrokers to track wagers, payouts, and debts.
Many legal sportsbooks are found online, operated over the Internet from jurisdictions separate from the clients they serve, usually to get around various gambling laws such as the in the in select markets, such as, or on gambling cruises through self-serve kiosks.
They take bets "up-front", meaning the bettor must pay the sportsbook before placing the bet.
Illegal bookies, due to the nature of their business, can operate anywhere but only require money from losing bettors and don't require the wagered money up front, creating the possibility of debt to the bookie from the bettor.
This creates a number of other criminal elements, thus furthering their illegality.
Sports betting has resulted in a number of scandals in sport, affecting the integrity of sports events through various acts including players affecting the score by missing shotsa player action is fixedbad calls from officials at key moments, and overall the overall result of the event is fixed.
Examples include thethe alleged and later admitted illegal gambling of former MLB playerand former NBA referee.
One of the biggest scandals of all involves the 2002 NBA Championship games.
After his trial, went on to release a statement to the public saying how one of the most controversial games in NBA history, Game six of the 2002 NBA Western Conference finals, was rigged.
The favoured team pays lower than does the underdog, thus, it acts mainly as an enticement to take the underdog for a better payout.
A parlay is at least two bets, but can be as many as the bookmaker will allow.
Parlays are very appealing to bettors because they are less-risky than straight bets.
It is hard to predict a single match up of a game so it is in the bettors favor to select multiple bets in the form of a parlay.
A teaser is a parlay that gives the bettor an advantage at a lower, but still positive, payout if successful.
The bettor selects the sport ssource of games, and number of points given.
If the bettor takes two NBA games at +6.
So a bet on a 3-point underdog at +3 will become a bet at +9.
Although the rules to win his bet are the same as a parlay, he is paid less than a regular parlay due to the increased odds of winning.
An if bet consists of at least two straight bets joined together by an if clause which determines the wager process.
These are wagers offered as alternatives to moneyline wagers in, orrespectively.
These bets feature a fixed that adjusts payouts based on the handicap between both teams.
The greater the underdog, the more a winning bet on the underdog will pay.
While all sports wagers are by definition on future events, bets listed as "futures" generally have a long-term horizon measured in weeks or months; for example, a bet that a certain team will win the for the upcoming season.
Such a bet must be made before the season starts in September, and winning bets will not pay off until the conclusion of the Super Bowl in January or February although many of the losing bets will be clear well before then and can be closed out by the book.
Odds for such a bet generally are expressed in a ratio of units paid to unit wagered.
The team wagered upon might be 50—1 to win thewhich means that the bet will pay 50 times the amount wagered if the team does so.
In general, most sports books will prefer this type of wager due to the low slot football yahoo fantasy ir, and also the longer period of time in which the house holds the player's money while the bet is pending.
A sports book may choose to buy in-play futures wagers at a price below the actual payout before a championship is decided if the potential payout is very high and thus, damaging to the sports book due to the money that may be lost.
In these bets, bettor predicts competitors results against each other and not on the overall result of the event.
One example are races, where you bet on two or three drivers and their placement among the others.
In totalizators sometimes called flexible-rate bets the odds are changing in real-time according to the share of total exchange each of the possible outcomes have received taking into account the return rate of the bookmaker offering the bet.
For example: If the bookmakers return percentage is 90%, 90% of the amount placed on the winning result will be given back to bettors and 10% goes to the bookmaker.
Naturally the more money bet on a certain result, the smaller the odds on that outcome become.
This is similar to in and.
A half halftime bet applies only to the score of the first or second half.
This can also be applied to a specific quarter in American football or basketball, a fewer number of innings in baseball, or a specific period in hockey.
In-play betting is a fairly new feature offered by some online sports books that enables bettors to place new bets while a sporting event is in progress.
In-play betting first appeared towards the end of the 1990s when some bookmakers would take bets over the telephone whilst a sports event was in progress, and has now evolved into a popular online service in many countries.
The introduction of in-play betting has allowed bookmakers to increase the number of markets available to bet on during sports events, and gamblers are able to place bets based on many different types of in-game activity during the matches.
